About

Hey, nice to meet you!

I’m Alice,

or phonetically aa l EE ch eh

Alice Scalfi

I was born in a small town near the shores of a mostly unknown, very serene lake in northern Italy, and yes, the place lives up to all the stereotypes you might have heard about the Italian countryside (pro tip: ask me about my lake and you’ll be booking your next vacation by the end of the conversation).

Since the very beginning, I was the kid that would bring adults to strain with one too many “Why?” questions — guess it is no wonder I’m a researcher now. However, my career path was very squiggly, as it often is:

  • I loved drawing, writing, and bringing my visions to reality so I initially funneled my need for raw creation by majoring at the Politecnico di Milano in Communication Design, which gave me world-class knowledge in graphic design and marketing strategies. Soon after that, I surrendered to my incurable need for new life challenges and experiences, so I moved to the United States where I earned a Master’s in Design Management at the Shintaro Akatsu School of Design & Ernest C. Trefz School of Business. The program was based on the concept of Design Thinking, which introduced me to the world of UX and business combined.

  • I started my career as a UI Designer which satisfied my creative outlet, but soon enough I found myself drifting more and more toward the UX part of my job, moderating design ideation workshops and creating personas as the basis for my work.

  • Then one day, I just somehow decided that I was tired of counting pixels and that understanding the root needs of my users was exactly what I wanted to do. I took the chance and started in a new role as a researcher.

Fast forward to now, I’m a trilingual, travel-loving, goal-&-challenge-driven UX Researcher. In the blink of an eye I matured 8 years of experience in UX between the USA, Italy, France, and all the other many places my job took me to. I truly love the daily challenges and responsibilities that come with the job: fast-paced, ever-changing environments keep my creativity alive and my motivation burning.

In the future, I want to: grow in my role and work for some of the most UX mature companies out there, develop my field and share my expertise at conferences, travel all over the world, gain expertise in video-making and editing, learn to surf just for fun, cook the perfect ramen, get a second Masters or Ph.D., see the northern lights, learn how to play an instrument, and that’s only the short version of this list.

If you think you can help me achieve any of these goals, if you share the same dreams, or if you just think this is a cool website, then just get in touch! Let's talk!
